Enterprise development and informal economy in deprived areas: Briefing PaperPrevista, as part of its work for the partnership, has prepared a briefing paper to inform the partnership of the key issues addressed by the literature on the informal economy in the context of SIED, and help to shape future work objectives. The objective of this research is to analyse the relationship between enterprise development and informal economy in communities living in areas of deprivation and explore the types of interventions available to facilitate the transition from informal to formal economic practices. Stairways to Growth – Prowess/GEM reportProwess held an event at the House of Commons on 15.11.06 to launch an important new report on women’s enterprise in the UK. Dr Rebecca Harding, Executive Director of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), was commissioned to produce a special GEM report focusing on women’s entrepreneurship. This research forms one of the outputs for the SIED partnership and SIED provided some case studies and interviews with women entrepreneurs who have been supported by the ACBBA Business Advisers. Showcasing Innovation: ITN's Networking Event and PublicationITN hosted the Showcasing Innovation in Enterprise event on 18 July 2006. The event highlighted the talent and creativity of London entrepreneurs. The event included presentations, music from a Turkish and a Kurdish band and a ‘Market Space’ for businesses to promote their goods and services. Participants had an opportunity to network and share their experiences. The event was attended by more than 50 people, including Community Based Business Advisers, SIED partners, Community Organisations and business people. ITN also produced a Showcasing Innovation Networking Event publication including a DVD, key facts, introduction, survey results, feedback from participants, attendance list, and contact details of businesses. the report is available to download here. REFLEX - Lessons Learnt Evaluation Report June 2005Armando Pardo of ACBBA produced an evaluation report on the ‘Regenerating Enterprise through Local Economic Exchange’ (REFLEX) project, entitled 'REFLEX - Lessons Learnt: A Model for Supporting BME Businesses'. The report summarised the achievements of REFLEX in order to facilitate further development of the model. SIED is an extension of the REFLEX project, so this Evaluation Report should make interesting reading for anyone involved in the work of the SIED Partnership.
